Gemography
A rare gemstone that is a favourite amongst gem collectors worldwide, Pollucite was first unearthed in the early 1840’s by German mineralogist August Breithaupt after its discovery on the small island of Elba off the Tuscan coast of Italy.
When inclusions are seen in the gemstone they can often resemble the look of snow flakes. Whilst the gem is quite brittle it does not have a cleavage.
The gem is very Diamond like not just in its appearance but also in the fact that the two of them are the only colourless gemstones that are singularly refractive.
