The third largest country in South America,  Peru is known for its headwaters to the Amazon,  the Andes Mountain and luscious rainforest. Peru  also makes a small, but important, contribution  to  the  Opal  world,  thus  preventing  Australia  from completely dominating the market.

Blue Opals, Pink Opals and Green Opals are all  mined in the province of Arequipa in southern  Peru. While yields of Pink Opals have been on the rise for several years now, Blue Opals have  become increasingly harder to find.

In addition to Opal, the country also mines a  small  quantity  of  Marcasite,  Rhodonite  and  Diopside.
