Pin Setting

A pin  setting  is  used  primarily  for  Pearls  where they are set on a ring. In this instance,  the surrounding precious metal is sculpted into  a dish shape to support the gem, which is then  partially drilled and bonded onto a metal pin. A similar style of setting is used for briolette cut  gems suspended from earrings. Here though,  the gem sits in a piece of metal similar in shape  to an upturned ice cream cone and the pin is  once again inserted into the gem.
