A promise ring is often given to one’s girlfriend as a way of demonstrating the seriousness of and commitment to a relationship.
Some people give a promise ring as a precursor to an engagement ring, and it is sometimes engraved with such messages as “I love you”, or “My Valentine” etc. Others give promise rings if they are too young to get married. They are also known to have been given when two people meet later in life and, although they know they want to stay together, feel the time has passed for marriage.
Although there is no set finger on which to wear a Promise Ring, many people place them on the wedding finger.
