Orphiment

Orpiment is a striking mineral known for its vivid yellow to orange-yellow color and translucent to transparent appearance. It forms in low-temperature hydrothermal veins, often in association with realgar and other sulfide minerals. The name "orpiment" is derived from the Latin word "auripigmentum," meaning "gold paint," due to its historical use as a pigment. This gemstone has a resinous to pearly luster and a Mohs hardness of 1.5 to 2, making it relatively soft and easily scratched. While prized for its vibrant color, orpiment should be handled with caution due to its arsenic content.
