DESCRIPTION
Sourced from the rooftop of the world, Kyanite is part of the aluminosilicate series which include Andalusite and Silliminite. In fact it is a poly-morph of the two and it's color is derived from the presence of Iron and Titanium.
Kyanite forms in elongated columnar crystals and is hard to facet due to it having perfect cleavage in one direction. On top of this it is also Anisotropic, meaning it has dual hardness making it 4.5 - 7 on the mohs scale. This makes it a challenge for any lapidarists to facet.
